Meet Anna Button
If your doula practice had a motto or theme song, what would it be—and why?
My motto would be 'Made for This' because I truly believe women are beautifully and powerfully designed for pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.
What’s something you’ve learned from your clients that has changed the way you approach your work?
I’ve learned that birth unfolds uniquely for each woman and it can be unpredictable. Every experience teaches me something new, but I never compare one birth to another. Each journey is its own and honoring that has shaped the way I support my clients.
In moments of challenge or intensity during a birth, what helps you stay grounded and present?
In challenging or intense moments, I ground myself by pausing to take a deep breath and offer a quiet prayer. It recenters me and helps me stay fully present.
What do you wish more people understood about the doula role or birthwork in general?
I wish more people understood that doulas can be a valuable support for any type of birth—not just unmedicated ones. Every birth can benefit from informational, emotional, physical, and spiritual support.
Describe a small ritual or practice you use to care for yourself after attending a birth.
If I’m not still on call, I like to put my phone on silent, go to bed early, and catch up on some much-needed sleep.
